The first heating of a new an electric heater is usually a moment that has been anticipated. In this article, we will share a comprehensive checklist to help you prepare for the first heating of your electric sauna heater smoothly and safely.
1. Choose a safe location for the electric heater
Before putting the heater into use, ensure that the location you have chosen for the heater meets all safety requirements. Familiarize yourself with the installation instructions that came with the heater regarding clearance distances, and if necessary, obtain accessories such as a recess collar to ensure safe installation. If the sauna previously had another heater, note that the clearance distances required by the old and new heaters may differ. A separate protective railing is also available as an accessory for several heaters.
2. Have the sauna heater installed by an electrician
An electric sauna heater must always be installed by a qualified electrician. Be sure to contact a certified electrician well in advance of your planned first sauna session. If the heater is operated with a separate control unit, also plan the placement of the controller beforehand. The separate control unit can be installed, for example, in the shower room or the dressing room. After the electrician has completed the installation, it is recommended to keep the heater’s main power switch turned off while the sauna stones are being placed.
3. Ladling the sauna stones
Once your heater is installed, it's time to load the heater stones. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for loading the heater stones. A general rule is to load the stones more loosely in the middle of the heating elements and a bit more densely around the heating elements. Remember also to monitor the condition of the stones and replace them once a year. You can find the full instructions for loading heater stones into a new or old heater here.
4. Safety check before first heating
Before you begin the first heating of the electric sauna heater, ensure the sauna is safe for use. Remove any extraneous items, such as debris left from the heater installation, and ensure there are no materials in the immediate vicinity of the heater that could pose a fire hazard.

Remember to take these into consideration
Please note that the first heating of the electric sauna heater may cause an odor in the sauna, which is normal. The odor is caused by the evaporation of protective substances and oils used in the manufacture of the heater. Ventilate the sauna room as needed.
Remember to monitor the condition of the sauna stones and replace them annually.
