FOR A FINNISH–ITALIAN FAMILY, SAUNA IS A PLACE OF RECOVERY FROM EVERYDAY LIFE AND SPORTS

Between 2022 and 2024, the Bonaguro family fulfilled a long-held dream by building a home that truly reflects their vision—a unique combination of modern elegance and warm practicality.

FOR A FINNISH–ITALIAN FAMILY, SAUNA IS A PLACE OF RECOVERY FROM EVERYDAY LIFE AND SPORTS

Between 2022 and 2024, the Bonaguro family fulfilled a long-held dream by building a home tailored exactly to their needs. “Our family is a Finnish–Italian blend of creativity, passion, and living life to the fullest,” says the mother of the family, Heini Bonaguro. Their home reflects this unique combination, radiating modern elegance and warm practicality.

The Bonaguro family - parents Heini and Mattia, their children Noah and Luis, and their English bulldog Hulk - live a daily life filled with ice hockey, everyday inspiration, and, of course, togetherness: enjoying good food, laughter, and the small but meaningful moments of daily life. “We are living both our dream home and an ice rink at the same time. And we love it!”

A HOME THAT TELLS THE FAMILY’S STORY

Working as an interior designer, Heini wanted to create a home that reflects the family’s Finnish-Italian roots and their love for aesthetics and functionality. “In the design process, it was important to me that our home tells our story.”

The sauna and bathrooms are no exception. Natural materials and a harmonious color palette create a calm atmosphere. The bathroom’s timeless warm beige tones and matte tiles support the cohesive look of the home, while copper showers act as eye-catching features, adding warmth and luxury. In the sauna, heat-treated wood has been used, bringing together both modern and traditional elements.

MONDEX KAIRA – A COMBINATION OF SLEEK DESIGN AND PLEASANT STEAM

At the heart of the Bonaguro family sauna is the Mondex Kaira E2 WiFi heater. Every detail in the home has been carefully considered to support its refined aesthetic, and Kaira’s stylish design blends seamlessly into the sauna and bathroom space. “Choosing the heater was important to us, as it directly affects the atmosphere and user experience. We especially appreciated the Finnish origin, elegance, and quality of the Mondex Kaira.”

In addition to its beautiful design, the heater must be fully functional to serve sauna users as well as possible. The Mondex Kaira E2 WiFi model can be controlled remotely via a smartphone, making it easy to schedule sauna sessions even in a busy daily life anytime, anywhere.

Like many other Mondex heaters, the Kaira allows you to adjust the steam by throwing water on different parts of the heater. Pouring water on the lower section creates soft, humid steam, while throwing water directly on top produces a more intense heat. The Kaira provides exactly the kind of steam the Bonaguro family dreams of, pleasantly soft and moist.

“The beauty of the heater is something you truly enjoy looking at—it adds its own sense of dignity and charm to the space.” Heini Bonaguro

SAUNA – AN OASIS OF BALANCE AND RECOVERY IN EVERYDAY LIFE

Carefully designed down to the last detail, the sauna was the final space to be completed in the Bonaguro family home. For the family, the sauna is much more than a typical heated room found in Finnish homes. It is a place to unwind after long days and sports activities. The family’s sons, Noah and Luis, who actively play ice hockey, enjoy the sauna’s restorative effects after training sessions and games. On weekends, the sauna often fills with friends, and it’s common to come straight from the outdoor rink into the warmth of the sauna.

The first sauna session in their new home was long awaited. “The sauna was the last element in our home to be completed. When it was finally finished, it didn’t just meet our expectations, it exceeded them completely!” The sauna space has received praise and admiration from both the family and their guests.

The carefully designed sauna and the soft steam of the Mondex Kaira heater have made the family’s important sauna moments even more enjoyable. Sauna is where they recover from everyday life, and Heini feels proud of the result: “This sauna completes the atmosphere of our home—it is the perfect place for relaxation and well-being.”

The sauna has become a shared oasis of well-being for the family, where soothing warmth, aesthetics, and everyday balance come together. And best of all, this thoughtfully designed sauna is a space that will bring joy and well-being for years to come.
