Puulate is a builder, inventor and creative maker who is known for his fun projects that combine electronics, wood, metal, and laser cutting. His projects are full of courage to experiment and faith in almost everything being possible. When the time came to renovate his sauna, his goal was to find a solution that combines traditional sauna atmosphere and modern design.

A fully Finnish choice that combines style and effectiveness

For the sauna renovation, Puulate wanted to find a heater whose appearance fits perfectly together with the rest of the sauna. In his search, he came across Mondex Klapi, a compact Finnish-made wood heater that combines the traditional sauna experience with modern and effective design.

Klapi vowed him immediately with its design and details. Puulate especially appreciated how the Mondex logo has been embedded stylishly as a part of the design and does not jump out too much. The round shape makes the sauna seem more spacious while the number of stones is much bigger than in the old heater.

Mondex Klapi has a modern flue gas secondary combustion that ensures cleaner and more effective burning. Less ash is produced, and the glass stays clean for longer. Puulate also praised the draft regulator, which ended up being important in his sauna because previously the long flue caused the draft to be too strong.

Easy installation and perfect steam

The heater installation went without a hitch. It came as a positive surprise how quickly Klapi heated up. Only one full loaf of firewood warmed the stones enough and the sauna was ready for bathing.

The steam lasts a long time and there are multiple types to choose from. Throwing water on top of the hot heater gives you a more intense and long-lasting steam while throwing on the side stones the steam is moister and softer. “When you throw enough water, your skin prickles and you can take what I call ‘ski jumpers’,” Puulate explained jokingly.

Part of everyday life and relaxation

Sauna is an important part of Puulate’s family’s everyday life and almost a daily ritual during which the mind relaxes and the rush of the day is left behind. In-between steams, they dip into a nearby lake and then get back into the warmth.

The Klapi heater has brought with it not only the perfect steam but also practical benefits. When the house is heated with electricity, the large number of stones in Klapi retain heat effectively, which keeps the bathroom warm until the next morning. This saves energy, and you can focus fully on relaxing.
